She Works Hard For The Money

She Works Hard For The Money

I had to follow the “B” side “I Do Believe (I Fell In Love) with the other side, which is “She Works Hard For The Money” from the album with the same name from 1983 which became her biggest hit since 1979 and put Donna Summer back in the spotlight as a Dance/Pop Diva.

Wasted

Wasted

No, Donna’s not referring to being “wasted” as in drunk or high, just lovelorn from the loss of her love.
From her 1976 album, “A Love Trilogy” one of our favorites!
We will be featuring “Wasted” in regular rotation this week.

Walk Away

Walk Away

Here’s another favorite track from Donna’s “Bad Girls” Album. It will be our track of the week for the Queen of Disco.

Bad Girls is the seventh studio album by American pop singer Donna Summer, released April 25, 1979 on Casablanca Records. Originally issued as a double album, it incorporates such musical styles as pop-disco, soul, rock, funk and country . Bad Girls became the best-selling album of Summer’s recording career, achieving triple platinum sales certification in the United States, and selling approximately five million copies total worldwide. Down, Deep Inside…

Down, Deep Inside...

Donna Summer’s contribution to the 1977 film, “The Deep” starring Nick Nolte and Jaqueline Bisset. She co-wrote it with composer John Barry, who scored the movie. Based on a novel by Peter Benchley (Jaws).
A pair of young vacationers are involved in a dangerous conflict with treasure hunters when they discover a way into a deadly wreck in Bermuda waters. Featuring extended underwater sequences and a look into the affairs of treasure hunting. (IMDB)
The song is pure Donna, channeling her sensual vocal style. It is kind of old fashioned yet seductive & romantic.

Carry On

Carry On

This weeks Donna Summer track of the week:

Carry On” is a song written by Giorgio Moroder and Marietta Waters and recorded by Donna Summer. The song was first released on Moroder’s 1992 album Forever Dancing. The following year, the song closed Summer’s two-disc set The Donna Summer Anthology.
During the 1970s Moroder had co-written and co-produced a large number of Summer’s disco hits, and this song marked the first time the two had worked together in more than a decade. The recording features background vocals by Summer’s children, Brooklyn and Amanda Grace Sudano, along with co-writers Waters and Moroder, and Larry Lee.
“Carry On” was released as a single in Germany in 1992 and some years later was remixed and became an international hit, reaching #25 on the U.S. Dance charts in 1997 and #65 on the UK Pop charts in 1998. That same year it won the first Grammy award for Best Dance Recording. (Wikipedia)

I Feel Love (Afrojack Remix)

I Feel Love (Afrojack Remix)

Over the past few weeks (Pre-Blog) we’ve been featuring some of our favorite tracks from Donna’s newly released remix album, “Love To Love You Donna
We started with “Love Is In Control” (Chromeo & Oliver Remix) and then we featured the “new” track “La Dolce Vita” (Donna and Giorgio Moroder) and then we featured “Love To Love You Baby” (Giorgio Moroder Remix featuring Chris Cox).

This week we’ve observed that Donna’s climbing up the charts (as I write this she holds the #7 position on the Billboard Dance Music charts with “MacArthur Park 2013” Remixed by Laidback Luke)

Not one to always play what’s popular, I’m featuring “I Feel Love” (Afrojack Remix) this week. There’s only a handful of remix tracks that I feel are worthy of a queen on this album. My friend DJ Alex Gutierrez put together a decent review of the album here. I concur with most of his choices. We love Donna and play as much of her as we can. Tune in to lovedisco.fm and get your Donna fix now!
