Turn Me Loose

Turn Me Loose

In 1980, Canadian rock band Loverboy, scored their first hit with “Turn Me Loose” off their first album. In keeping with our Aussie theme, the Young Divas turned it into a hit in the land down under with their 2007 remake. As our song(s) of the week we feature Loverboy VS Young Divas.

FASHION! FASHION! FASHION!

FASHION! FASHION! FASHION!

Fashion: whether it be new, old, in or out! Classic or passing, we wanted to feature, Lady GaGa’s song “Fashion!” from her latest album “ArtPop”
I have to admit, I’ve gone gaga for this song! “Fashion!” reminds me a bit of the 1980 David Bowie song with the same title from his album “Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)”
In keeping with the theme I wanted to throw in one of my favorite Amanda Lear disco tracks from 1979, “Fashion Pack” In the song she visits Studio 54 and name-drops several of the movers and shakers of the era. It’s a nice homage to the era…who is in, who is out…tell me , tell me, tell me…

Boney M. In the Holiday Spirit!

Boney M. In the Holiday Spirit!

Our track of the week, “Mary’s Boy Child – Oh My Lord” is from the Boney M 1981 Christmas album.
We are just a little more than a week away from Christmas day and this time of year is always one of the busiest. We hear “Christmas” music everywhere: at work, in every retail store and even though I complain about it and like to escape to lovedisco.fm to retreat from this bombardment of holiday schlock, I have to admit that deep down inside I love it. Especially when Christmas music and DISCO meld together. It’s as perfect as rum in your egg nog!

Time to Macarena again!

Time to Macarena again!

Macarena” is a Spanish dance song by Los del Río about a woman of the same name. Appearing on the 1994 album A mí me gusta, it was an international hit in 1995, 1996, and 1997, and continues to have a cult following. One of the most iconic of 1990s dance music, it was ranked the “#1 Greatest One-Hit Wonder of all Time” by VH1 in 2002. (Wikipedia)

As part of our tribute to “Mike In The Night” (Mike Triay) who passed away a year ago today, we are featuring “Macarena” (The Bayside Boys Remix) which he was co-writer and co-producer. Some of you will be familiar with him as the voice behind “Open House Radio” the weekly disco and dance music show produced out of Miami. You can hear new programs of “Open House Radio” on Friday nights at 8pm (ET) and re-runs of the show every day of the week at 9am (ET).

Amazingly this version of “Macarena” stayed at the top of the charts in 1996 for 14 weeks, making it one of the longest runs at #1 on the Billboard charts. Heard the world over on cruise ships and wedding dances ever since! Now it’s time to bust out those moves again this week at lovedisco.fm

Paul Parker, Then and Now

Paul Parker, Then and Now

Paul Parker, 80’s hunk vocalist from San Francisco, who’s biggest hit came in 1982 with the #1 Dance Hit, “Right On Target” working with the late, great, Patrick Cowley. His recent album, “Take It From Me” released in 2010 is really quite good. So we will be featuring “Right on Target” as well as a track we love off his latest album, “Don’t Stop (What You’re Doing To Me)” as our featured Track of the week. Paul Parker THEN and NOW!!!
